Sea Lanes Canary Wharf: London's First Floating Lido Opens in 2026
Sea Lanes Canary Wharf brings London's first Olympic sized floating lido to Eden Dock with year round open water swimming and wellness facilities.
London is about to get a swimming experience unlike anything it has seen before.
On 19 June 2026, Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will officially open at Eden Dock, bringing London's first Olympic sized floating lido to the heart of Canary Wharf. Built directly into the historic dock waters, the new facility combines open water swimming, wellness, fitness, and community spaces in one of the city's most striking urban settings.
Created by the team behind Sea Lanes Brighton, the UK's first National Open Water Swimming Centre, this new London outpost gives you the chance to swim in natural water year round while surrounded by Canary Wharf's iconic skyline.
Whether you're a dedicated swimmer, a beginner curious about open water swimming, or simply looking for a new wellness experience in London, here's everything you need to know before it opens.
What is Sea Lanes Canary Wharf?
Sea Lanes Canary Wharf is a purpose built open water swimming destination located within Eden Dock, one of Canary Wharf's newest waterside public spaces.
At the centre of the project is a floating 50 metre swimming pool filled with natural freshwater from the dock itself. Instead of functioning like a conventional swimming pool with treated and temperature-controlled water, the pool uses filtered dock water, creating a genuine open water swimming experience while maintaining the safety and structure of a dedicated lane swimming facility.
The venue has been designed to be much more than just a swimming pool. Alongside the lido, you'll find wellness facilities, saunas, changing areas, social spaces, food and drink outlets, and a year round programme of water based activities.
The goal is simple: bring the physical and mental benefits of open water swimming into central London in an accessible and welcoming way.
Why this opening matters
Open water swimming has exploded in popularity across the UK over the past decade, but London has lacked a dedicated large scale facility designed specifically for it.
Sea Lanes Canary Wharf changes that.
Not only is it London's first Olympic sized floating lido, but it is also one of the few places where you can experience natural water swimming in a controlled, professionally managed environment without leaving the city.
Instead of swimming in a suburban leisure centre or travelling to the coast, you'll be swimming in natural water surrounded by Canary Wharf's skyscrapers, waterfront promenades, gardens, and public art.
The contrast is remarkable. One moment you're immersed in open water. Next, you're looking up at some of London's tallest buildings.
For Canary Wharf, it is another major step in transforming the area from a business district into a neighbourhood focused on culture, wellbeing, recreation, and public spaces.
The pool size, layout and water quality
The centrepiece is an Olympic length floating pool measuring 50 metres long and 12 metres wide. The pool features:
- 6 swimming lanes
- 1.3 metre depth throughout
- Natural freshwater drawn from Eden Dock
- Lifeguarded swimming sessions
- Year round operation
- Accessibility for swimmers of varying abilities
One of the most important things to know is that the water is not heated. Temperatures will fluctuate naturally throughout the year. Summer water temperatures are generally expected to sit between 16°C and 20°C, while colder months will naturally be cooler.
The good news is that Eden Dock's water quality has been rated "Excellent" under EU Bathing Water Standards, ensuring the water is regularly monitored and maintained to high standards
Saunas, wellness and community spaces
Sea Lanes has been designed as a complete wellness destination. Alongside the pool, you'll find two saunas powered entirely by renewable energy. These provide the perfect post swim recovery experience, especially during colder months.
The site will also include:
- Hot showers
- Accessible changing facilities
- A community clubhouse
- Food and drink options
- Retail space
- Landscaped courtyards and seating areas
- Geodesic dome structures inspired by the Eden Project partnership
The result is a venue where you can easily spend several hours, rather than simply arriving for a swim and leaving.
Activities beyond swimming
If swimming laps isn't your thing, Sea Lanes will still have plenty to offer. Members will gain access to a broader open water programme that includes paddleboarding, freediving, dock swimming, surf fitness sessions, and seasonal activities.
There are also plans to introduce scuba experiences during the winter months, expanding the range of water based experiences available throughout the year.
This broader activity programme helps position Sea Lanes as a true outdoor water sports hub!
Memberships and pricing
Sea Lanes has been designed to accommodate both occasional swimmers and regular users. Pay as you go sessions start from £10 per swim or sauna visit, making it accessible if you simply want to try the experience.
For more frequent visits, membership options include:
- Swim Only Membership: £45 per month
- Swim and Sauna Membership: £80 per month
- Founder's Membership: £75 per month before opening day, offering enhanced value and additional benefits
Founder members receive unlimited swimming and sauna access, exclusive perks, and complimentary off peak swimming at Sea Lanes Brighton and Hilsea Lido. Concession and annual membership options are also available.
Opening hours and swim sessions
Sea Lanes will operate almost every day of the year.
- Monday to Friday: 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Swimming sessions run in one hour slots and begin at regular intervals throughout the day. One particularly appealing feature is the early weekday opening. If you work in Canary Wharf or the City, you can fit in an open water swim before heading to the office, something that simply hasn't been possible at this scale in London before.
Getting to Sea Lanes Canary Wharf
The venue is located at Eden Dock on Mackenzie Walk in Canary Wharf. The easiest route is via Canary Wharf Station, which is served by:
- Jubilee Line
- Elizabeth Line
- Docklands Light Railway
From the station, it's a short walk to Eden Dock.
If you're arriving by river, Thames Clippers services stop at Canary Wharf Pier, which is around eight minutes away on foot.
Tips before your first visit
If you're new to open water swimming, there are a few things worth knowing:
- Book your session in advance, particularly for early morning and lunchtime slots, which are expected to be the busiest.
- Because the water is unheated, consider wearing a wetsuit if you're unfamiliar with cold water swimming. Sea Lanes even offers a wetsuit concierge service for regular users.
- Arrive early enough to get changed and familiarise yourself with the facility before your session starts.
- And if you're visiting during the summer, don't rush off afterwards. The saunas, clubhouse and waterfront setting make it worth staying a little longer.
