Whipsnade Zoo Easter Egg Hunt 2026: A Complete Guide

A full-day Easter adventure at Whipsnade Zoo with giant egg trails, animal encounters, and interactive clues across 600 acres.

Published on

If you’re planning an Easter day out that goes beyond the usual egg hunt, this one is worth your time. The Zoonormous Egg Hunt at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is designed as a full-day outdoor experience across the UK’s largest zoo, tied to the 200th anniversary of the Zoological Society of London.

The Zoonormous Egg Hunt offers more space, more animals, and a trail that actually feels like an adventure rather than a quick activity.

What the easter egg hunt is actually like

Instead of a small contained trail, you will be exploring a 600-acre zoo, which changes how you approach the entire experience. Across the park, six giant Easter eggs are hidden in different zones. Each one gives you a clue, and by the end, you piece everything together to unlock a final code.

The theme is built around how animals work for their food in the wild. So while it feels like a game, there’s a subtle learning element throughout.

Once you complete the trail, you’ll get a treat at the finish point, but the real value is in everything you cover along the way.

What you’ll see along the way

Because the trail spans the entire zoo, you’re doing the hunt alongside seeing all the animals in the zoo. Expect to pass through:

  • Asian elephants (one of the UK’s largest herds).
  • Southern white rhinos, including younger calves.
  • Reticulated giraffes at Giraffe Heights.
  • Penguins and small mammals, often with their own enrichment activities.

Home to over 11,000 animals, your egg hunt will take you on a thrilling journey through the major exhibits of the zoo.

The space is huge, which means you will walk a lot unless you plan ahead. You have three ways to get around:

  • Walk the full route (best if you want a full-day outdoor experience).
  • Take the Jumbo Express steam train (extra fee, runs across key zones).
  • Drive your own car inside the zoo (extra fee, but very practical with kids).

There’s also on-site parking, so driving in is straightforward.
